One of the most prestigious events on the golf calendar returns this week, as the world’s best players prepare to descend on Royal Troon for this year’s Open.

It’s the last of the four major championships in 2024, with the victor set to pocket a prize in excess of £2milliion and, of course, get their hands on the famous Claret Jug.

Scottie Scheffler stars the week in Scotland as the bookies’ favourite, with the two-time major winner having been in fine form all year.

Rory McIlroy ranks second in the odds list, as the Northern Irishman looks to end his 10-year drought for a major win on the back of a 14 under-par finish at last weekend’s Scottish Open.

But McIlroy’s last major outing ended in heartbreak, after the 35-year-old choked a two-shot lead on the back-nine during June’s US Open at Pinehurst - a collapse he’ll be keen to make amends for.

What TV channel is The Open at Royal Troon on?

Sky Sports’ dedicated golf channel will offer wall-to-wall coverage of The Open, with the broadcast from Royal Troon getting underway at 6:30am on Thursday morning.

Sky Sports Main Event will also be across the coverage, while the championship can also be streamed via the Sky Sports and NOW TV apps.

The Open’s in-house radio station will be across the coverage at Royal Troon, with each day of the championship being covered.

Live commentary will begin at 7am on Thursday & Friday, and 9am on Saturday & Sunday, running until close of play on each day.

For UK listeners, BBC Radio 5Live and talkSPORT will also have reporters on the ground providing updates from the course.

What are The Open tee times?

McIlroy will begin his pursuit of his fifth major title at 10:09am on Thursday, teeing off with Max Homa and Tyrrell Hatton.

Scheffler will have to wait until mid-afternoon to get his Open underway - the American has been paired with Jordan Spieth and Cameron Young.

Other notable tee times for Thursday include 9:36am for Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood and recently crowned Scottish Open champion Robert MacIntyre.

While a star-studded grouping of Tiger Woods, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay take to the course at 2:37pm.

Bryson DeChambeau is earlier in the day at 9:47am, before last year’s winner Brian Harman gets going with Viktor Hovland and Sahith Theegala at 9:58am.
