Matt Wallace has shown another side of his golfing persona by sharing his raw emotions following his cut at The Renaissance Club. The Englishman was left out of the Genesis Scottish Open due to a two-over par round which saw him miss the cut by just three shots.

This is Wallace's second missed cut in a row on the PGA Tour and it seemed like the emotions of the day got the better of him during a bare-all interview in the 'Green Room'. The DP World Tour introduced this interview room idea to encourage players to open up more to their support and share their real feelings that they may not want to during a press conference or TV appearance.

Wallace sat down in the chair as a robotic voice said: "Hi Matt, welcome to the Green Room. Is it your first time here?" The golfer was visibly upset and was seen fidgeting the whole time as he struggled to hold back tears while addressing the situation.

Wallace said: "First time, uh, pretty terrible, straight after signing my card - I didn't realise it was this quick that they come and get in here. Yeah, pretty gutted."

When asked if there was anything he'd like to talk about, Wallace explained: "I'm trying to change my attitude towards the game a little bit by being a bit more positive about it and um, I just lack a load of self-confidence at the moment. Yeah, it's hard."

At this point, the Englishman begins to cry and wipes at a few tears as the voice asks: "Do you want to talk about how you are feeling? What's going through your mind?" Wallace replies: "I'm just not where I want to be, you know, in the game - you can't force it, you've got to roll with the punches and that's what I'm doing at the moment.

"Just working hard every day and that's just how it is. The game doesn't owe you anything you know and I don't like to get emotional about it but I'm quite an emotional person, everyone know's that so, yeah it's hard."

The voice thanks Wallace for opening up and asks if there's anything else he'd like to talk about, to which he adds: "No, no, no I'm grand, like everyone knows I'm an emotional person.

"I try the best I can, some people don't like the approach that I have but I'm always just trying to improve myself and trying to be the best I can be so - to everyone out there that supports me, we'll be back. We'll get there. Thank you."

Wallace initially carded a two-under first round on Thursday at the Scottish Open but his bogey-par-bogey finish on Friday meant that he had missed the three-under-par cutline, and therefore missed out on the tournament. While some could say Wallace's form has dipped, his previous showings have proven that this won't deter him from pursuing more titles.

Wallace's maiden PGA Tour victory in 2023 at the Corales Puntacana Championship came after six cuts in seven starts and he had just finished seventh in another tournament the week prior to claiming his first title.

Scottish golfer Bob MacIntyre claimed his first Scottish Open victory at the weekend with a final score of 18-under-par, with a 22-foot putt to cap off a thrilling end to the tournament.
