Denmark coach walks out after suffering very awkward 20-second press conference

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer endured an extremely awkward moment as he walked out of his press conference following their UEFA Nations League clash with Serbia on Tuesday evening.

In what could be a contender for the shortest press conference in history, the national team boss arrived for his post-match discussion with the media after a goalless draw at the Dubocica Stadium in Belgrade - only to leave 20 seconds later.

As with every media session, the Denmark press officer began by addressing the reporters: "Good evening and welcome to the press conference, we just go ahead with your questions," he said.

"So please wait for the microphone and state the media that you represent, and then ask your questions for Brian."

But his request was met with a deafening silence as Riemer, with a confused look on his face, could be seen scanning the audience for potential questions.

There were no volunteers in sight, however, and an excruciating few seconds of silence followed as the 46-year-old waited to speak.

Some 20 seconds after the session began, the press officer then decided to bring an end to proceedings: "No questions? Alright. Thank you so much."

Riemer got up from his seat and made a swift exit, and the Dane flashed a brief smile as he made his way out of the media room.

Riemer started his career coaching the Albertslund Under-17 team in 2003, having never played professional football. He even had a brief stint as Norwich City youth coach before heading back to Denmark.

After spells with Hvidovre and FC Copenhagen's youth team, he was hired to serve as Thomas Frank's assistant at Brentford and was part of the team when they gained promotion to the Premier League in 2020.

He continued working in the role for four years before taking the Anderlecht job in 2022 to mark his first foray into management. Earlier this year, he was hired to replace Kasper Hjulmand, who resigned following Denmark's round of 16 exit from Euro 2024.

Riemer guided the Scandanavian nation to victory in his first game in charge, a 2-0 win over 10-man Switzerland in Copenhagen, before beating Serbia by the same scoreline three days later.

However, his side have now gone four games without a win following their drab draw in Belgrade, where the visitors were outplayed for long spells of the match.

Serbia had 22 attempts on goal to Denmark's eight, although the game finished on a sour note when Strahinja Pavlovic was sent off for two bookable offences in stoppage time.

And with a lack of action to speak about during the Nations League fixture, it may explain why there were so few questions for Riemer after the game.
