Lee Carsley is set to name his final England squad at 2pm ahead of crucial UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland later this month. The Three Lions will reunite for the final time until March at the end of the week with the ultimate aim of earning promotion back among Europe's elite countries.
Thomas Tuchel will be keeping a close eye on both games as he prepares to enter the hot seat as Gareth Southgate's permanent successor in January.
Carsley hasn't looked comfortable since temporarily stepping up from his Under-21 role to cover for Southgate after his post-Euro 2024 resignation.
And, to make matters more difficult this month, the England caretaker manager is battling a looming injury crisis before two must-win outings.
Carsley could be missing at least nine senior players when he reveals his final group of players this afternoon.
That could open the door for Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United players, among others, to earn a reprieve after recent snubs.
There is also an opportunity for a handful of exciting first-time call-ups amid standout performances at the start of the Premier League season.
Express Sport keeps you updated with regular England squad updates throughout the day:
Lee Carsley's outside options
Reece James, Curtis Jones and Marcus Rashford are among the England players potentially in line for a recall amid Lee Carsley's injury woes.
Jones hasn't yet earned his first cap, but he trained with Gareth Southgate's provisional squad ahead of Euro 2024.
Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall is another uncapped player in the frame as injury woes continue to strike Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell.
Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers could be in line for a maiden call-up amid his starting status under Unai Emery.
Callum Hudson-Odoi has also enjoyed a strong start to the season at Nottingham Forest and will undoubtedly be in consideration.
England may have nine injury absentees
England could be without nine senior players if club managers intervene ahead of the hectic festive schedule.
Declan Rice sustained a foot injury in Arsenal's defeat at Newcastle United and missed the Gunners' trip to Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Cole Palmer has been absent from Chelsea training after being on the receiving end of a nasty Lisandro Martinez challenge at the weekend.
At Manchester City, John Stones and Jack Grealish have been among Pep Guardiola's many missing players in recent games.
On the other side of Manchester, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo remain sidelined.
And Crystal Palace duo Adam Wharton and Eberechi Eze have their own problems.
