Virgil van Dijk has disclosed that talks are "ongoing" with Liverpool regarding a new contract, but confesses he is uncertain about his future at the club beyond this season.
The Dutch defender shared this news following Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, stating that he is unsure of what "the future brings" for him.
Van Dijk, 33, whose contract expires at the end of the current season, will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs from January if a new agreement is not reached.
The Liverpool skipper revealed that his representatives are in discussions with the 'right people' and his complete attention is on the Reds.
He stated: "I can say obviously discussions are ongoing, but I don't know, we will see what happens in the future. My very full focus is on Liverpool, wanting to win games that are ahead of me and nothing else.
"What the future will bring I have no idea at the moment. I can only tell you that discussions have been started up and we will see."
Van Dijk delivered another stellar performance on Sunday as goals from Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones secured the win against Chelsea, who had levelled the score through Nicolas Jackson.
Despite heading into his mid-30s, the Dutchman is showing no signs of slowing down, which should help put his point across in contract negotiations.
However, Van Dijk emphasised that his main concern is ensuring Liverpool are successful this campaign under Arne Slot.
He added: "I feel very good, physically, mentally and I am having fun. What the future brings I have no idea at the moment, but like I said in my previous answer, discussions are ongoing with the right people and when it's time to make a decision or whatever, I think you guys (the media) will know it as well.
"But now full commitment and focus is on Liverpool and to be successful this season. So we will see."
The futures of Van Dijk's team-mates, defender Trent Alexander-Arnold and forward Salah, also remain uncertain, with their contracts set to expire in the summer and no new agreements yet in place.
