Thomas Tuchel admits he hasn't made a decision on whether he'll sing the national anthem after being appointed England boss.

Tuchel became the third non-British coach of the England men's team when he was appointed as Gareth Southgate's successor by the FA.

But the German hasn't yet nailed his colours to the mast on whether he'll sing God Save the King.

Speaking at Wembley Stadium, he commented: "I have not made my decision yet. Your anthem is very moving. I have experienced it a few times, at the FA Cup final for example.

"I have until March. I will always show my respect to the country. But I will take my time."

Current interim boss Lee Carsley came under heavy criticism for not singing the national anthem when he took charge of the Three Lions after Southgate's resignation.

Carsley, who was born in Birmingham, played 39 times for the Ireland men's team, having qualified through his Irish grandmother.

Instead, Tuchel has revealed his primary focus as England manager will be on the football.

On the task at hand, Tuchel added: "The job is just about football, and I wasn’t sure about that before I went to the interview.

"It suits my way of working. I always wanted to return to England. It’s here that I have the best memories. I know there are some trophies missing. I want to help to make it happen."

Tuchel boasts an impressive track record of winning trophies in club management, with his crowning glory coming in the 2021 Champions League final with Chelsea.

He has also won league titles in both France and Germany with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich respectively.

The 51-year-old believes his experience of lifting silverware will help him make the transition to international football.

He continued: "I am up for the pressure. I am up to the task. These are all the reasons to jump in. The pressure on the personal side, the media, is never part of the decision-making.

"Sure, I feel it in the process. But my love and passion for the game is always much more than the negative."

Carsley took charge of England's last four matches across the previous two international breaks but shared doubts over his credentials to take up the role on a full-time basis.

The ex-Ireland international is expected to manage England for their final two Nations League fixtures, before returning to his role as under-21 boss in the new year.

England face a must-win clash against Greece before finishing their Nations League campaign against Ireland at Wembley.

Tuchel will start his job as England manager in January 2025.
