Amanda Staveley and her camp have identified Eddie Howe as Tottenham's potential next manager if Ange Postecoglou struggles to improve a shaky start to the season, according to reports. Staveley is nearing an investment in Spurs just months after leaving Newcastle United alongside husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

The 51-year-old is expected to buy some of majority stakeholder Joe Lewis' shares, which are now held in a family trust.

And she is said to be plotting to lure Howe from Newcastle, where she helped Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund complete its £305million takeover in October 2021.

Staveley, who had a 10 per cent stake in the club, was a central figure in appointing Howe at St. James' Park, sacking Steve Bruce shortly after the takeover.

But, along with Ghodoussi, she walked away from Tyneside in July and is reportedly on course to switch allegiances to Tottenham.

According to The Sun, Staveley is unsurprisingly a huge admirer of Howe and would name him at the summit of her shortlist if Postecoglou's future becomes uncertain.

The Australian made an effort to highlight that he has always won silverware in his second season at previous clubs earlier this term.

But Tottenham are slumped in ninth in the Premier League, eight points off leaders Liverpool, having won three and lost as many.

Spurs were also drawn against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup last 16, threatening the 16-year trophy drought in N17 to continue.

The report adds that Tottenham could face competition if Staveley spearheads an offensive for Howe in the coming months, though.

It's claimed that the FA also highly respect the 46-year-old amid their search for the next permanent England manager after Gareth Southgate.

However, England chiefs are reportedly unwilling to pay the hefty compensation that Howe's contract - running until 2027 - would demand.

While Three Lions technical director John McDermott greatly appreciates his play style and experience, Howe is said to consider himself too young to step away from club football.

That opens the door for Tottenham to swoop in, although it remains to be seen whether the former AFC Bournemouth boss would want to abandon his project at Newcastle.

The Magpies are two places above Spurs in seventh, having lost just one of their opening seven Premier League matches.

Howe has already guided Newcastle back into the Champions League once, and he will be focused on achieving that feat again this season.
