Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to be honoured with a life-sized bronze statue in his hometown.

Before his death at the age of 76 last month, the revered ex-England manager met up with the artist and was measured up for the statue to guarantee it will be an exact replica of him.

The commemorative piece will take the place of a plaster statue currently gracing the exterior of the tourist information office in Torsby, where Eriksson grew up and also spent his final days before his passing.

Torsby Municipality's business developer, Andre Liljemark, spoke to Mirror Football about the plans: "It will be a bronze statue and will be heated by electrical cords inside it keeping it warm, so people will be able to come here during the winter and Svennis will be warm to touch.

"It will be exactly Sven's size. The arms, the fingers, the nose, the ears, everything. The artist visited Sven and took measurements. Every millimetre of his body will be the right size and on the statue will be Sven's real suit and shoes, which he wore.

"She's been taking inspiration from pictures of the time when he was with England. It is in the making and will be finished maybe in November."

More than 1,000 individuals, including the likes of David Beckham, Roy Hodgson, and Sven's ex-girlfriend Nancy Dell'Olio, were present to bid farewell to Eriksson at his funeral on Friday, with some watching the ceremony on a large screen outdoors.

The funeral came nine months after Sven revealed his terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis, giving him "at best case a year" to live. In a new Prime Video documentary, Sven is seen viewing the current statue, remarking: "I don't think it looks like me, but maybe."

Andre explained: "We took the decision to have a new one made this spring because in Torsby everybody loves Sven, not as a coach or manager, but as a human being. The new statue is about Sven and his life as a human being.

"When Sven was home in Torsby he wasn't this big coach or manager, he was an ordinary human being. He was a fantastic bloke and he saw everybody. You would see him all the time around Torsby."

Andre also shared his thoughts on the old statue, drawing comparisons to a sculpture of Cristiano Ronaldo: "It has a great story behind it, although it's not that nice to look at! But you have seen the other statues of people like Ronaldo, so every famous person needs to have a statue that is not that good looking!"

News of a fresh statue proposal emerged yesterday, as it was also revealed that Sven generously welcomed a family of Afghan refugees  into his home. The family, including a mum and her three children, lived in Sven's home for about three years until they could secure their own flat at the end of last year.

A family friend shared: "Almost nobody knew about it. They were legal refugees from Afghanistan and stayed with him at his luxury estate. Sven offered them living space and let them live there for years and took care of their expenses. He was great and had a great heart."
