The funeral of former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson took place in the Swede's hometown on Friday afternoon.

Eriksson passed away last month aged 76 years old, having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

Much-loved in the world of football, several famous faces turned up to the town of Torsby in Sweden for the funeral.

The would-be tactician began his football career playing for the town's local team, before going on to have a career in management spanning four decades.

Eriksson took charge of European giants such as Benfica, Roma and Lazio, before being appointed England manager in 2001 - the first non-Brit to do so.

Among those in attendance for the funeral were his children, Lina and Johan, and former Liverpool and Sweden footballer Glenn Hysen.

David Beckham, alongside wife Victoria, also flew in for the funeral, having worked under Eriksson during his five years as Three Lions boss.

Such was the clamour to pay respects to the late Eriksson, an overspill area was set up outside the church for members of the public to watch the ceremony.

It comes after an emotional week of tributes following England's first home match at Wembley following Eriksson's death.

England skipper Harry Kane commented ahead of Tuesday night's clash against Finland: “It will be a sad night for a lot of England fans and a lot of England players. There’ll be a good tribute to him that he fully deserves.

“From what I understand, I didn’t get to meet him personally, just a great person, really, really loyal to his players and his job. I think he’ll go down as one of England’s best managers.

“From our point of view, we just wish all his family and friends our condolences, and we hope we can pay a good tribute tomorrow night.”

Speaking in his final farewell message as part of a self-titled documentary Sven said: "I had a good life. I think we are all scared of the day when we die, but life is about death as well.

"You have to learn to accept it for what it is. Hopefully at the end people will say, yeah, he was a good man, but everyone will not say that.

"I hope you will remember me as a positive guy trying to do everything he could do. Don’t be sorry, smile. Thank you for everything, coaches, players, the crowds, it’s been fantastic. Take care of yourself and take care of your life. And live it. Bye."
