Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho risks upsetting Erik ten Hag after ‘deleting an Instagram like’ on a controversial post about the manager.
The winger has started just one Premier League match so far this season, coming on as a late substitute on two different occasions. The Argentina international will be hopeful that he will be in line for a start when his side travels to St Mary’s this weekend.
However, he will need to ensure that he has not angered Ten Hag with his social media conduct before banking on a start against Southampton.

According to the Daily Mail, Garnacho liked – and has since unliked – a post which featured quotes from Cristiano Ronaldo on how he was infuriated by comments made by Ten Hag in regards to the ambition at Old Trafford.
The post read: “Cristiano Ronaldo: “Man United coach can NOT say they can’t compete to win the Premier League and the Champions League every year. This is Man United! You have to be there, to mentally say… listen, maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that. We’re going to try. You have to try”.
“'This is why Man United need to rebuild”, (Ronaldo) tells Five. 'If Ten Hag listens to Ruud van Nistelrooy… maybe he can help. He knows the club and the club should listen to the guys who were there, as this is really important'.”
Ronaldo never saw eye to eye with Ten Hag when they crossed paths at the Theatre of Dreams, which led to the Portugal international seeing his contract with the club terminated in November 2022.
Thus, Ronaldo did not pull any punches when quizzed on his ex-manager and what he can bring to the table at Old Trafford – and Garnacho liking the post may be a subtle hint that he agrees with his childhood hero.
The 20-year-old may have recognised that it was a lapse in judgement to publicly agree with the post though, especially as he has apologised to Ten Hag previously for stepping out of line online.
Last season, Garnacho liked posts which criticised the ex-Ajax boss for substituting him off at half-time against Bournemouth. He soon apologised for his actions though, with Ten Hag saying in the following days: “Alejandro is a young player and has to learn a lot. He apologised for it and after that we move on."
It remains to be seen whether Ten Hag is made aware of Garnacho’s Instagram activity this time around or if the incident will, again, be resolved promptly internally.
