Chelsea have reportedly put an end to their pursuit of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.

The Blues have already changed up their squad significantly this summer but remain hopeful of being busy in the final few days of the transfer window, with acquisitions at both ends of the pitch not being ruled out.

Enzo Maresca has made it no secret that he would like to welcome the arrival of a marquee striker to lead the line for his side, with several options being explored.

Osimhen has been cited as the top target at Stamford Bridge throughout this summer, with the ex-Lille star keen to leave Napoli before Friday’s deadline.

However, despite negotiations intensifying in recent weeks due to a deal which will see Romelu Lukaku head in the opposite direction, Chelsea appear to be turning their attention to alternative targets.

According to The Guardian, the Blues have failed to reach a ‘breakthrough’ in talks with Napoli and the demands of the player are proving a sticking point in negotiations as well.

Chelsea are not willing to match his requested wages, despite Osimhen being keen on the move.

Therefore, Saudi side Al-Ahli could have a free run at the Nigeria international given that Paris Saint-Germain left the race to secure his signature after they were unable to strike an agreement with Napoli.

With Osimhen no longer appearing to be a viable option to Todd Boehly and co, the higher powers at Chelsea are now looking at alternatives and have reignited their interest in Brentford’s Ivan Toney as a result.

The England international is hoping to leave the Gtech Community Stadium this week, with Al-Ahli pushing to secure his signature and offering him a contract worth £16million a year at the club.

However, Toney would favour remaining in the Premier League and is open to exploring all opportunities over the next few days.

Chelsea are long-term admirers of the forward and are keen to test the resolve of Brentford with an offer which falls short of their £50m asking price for their No. 17.

Toney has not featured in the Bees’ matchday squad for their opening two matches of the season whilst his future remains uncertain after Al-Ahli submitted a now-rejected bid for the forward worth £35m.
