Ange Postecoglou struggled to hide that Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign Yang Min-hyuk in a press conference this morning.

Spurs are closing in on a deal to sign the South Korean star from K-League outfit Gangwon FC, with the forward expected to be announced as a Spurs player next week. Yang will then return to Gangwon FC on loan until January.

Tottenham have conducted their business quietly so far this summer, striking a quick-fire deal for Archie Gray and effortlessly agreeing to retain the services of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig on loan.

However, Postecoglou struggled to hide that his side were closing in on Yang ahead of his side’s pre-season friendly against Vissel Kobe in Tokyo.

Asked about the forward, he said: “I'm well aware of the quality of the K League. When I was at Celtic we were looking to bring over a couple of Korean players.

“They have made a fantastic impact across Europe, none bigger than our Sonny. He's an outstanding individual. So yes, we'll be looking far and wide for players. As you said, it's difficult for me to discuss.”

The Aussie then cracked a grin, which clearly spelled that Spurs are closing to a deal, before fielding further questions about South Korean signings.

Postecoglou also talked up the quality of the J-League and insisted that he believes Japan have players capable of playing at the very top level in Europe. He explained: “Everyone knows me. I spent close to four years here in Japan.

“I think the J League is a competition that ranks with apart from the big five leagues in Europe, I believe it ranks in quality with other leagues.

“Japan has a lot of players who are doing well across the world. We've seen (Kauro) Mitoma go to Brighton and the Premier League and I took a number of players to Celtic.”

The Spurs boss went on to call for patience from Tottenham supporters and insisted that his team are working hard around the clock to bring new signings in, despite the ‘misinformation’ that is readily available.

The north London outfit are in the market for further reinforcements in the final third, with Brentford star Ivan Toney being heavily linked with joining Spurs to replace Richarlison as Postecoglou’s No. 9 next season.
