M International Airport (MIA) has marked a significant milestone in 2024, recording over 7.64 million passengers, an increase of 48% compared to the previous year.
Flight movements also surged, exceeding 59,000, reflecting a 41% rise. December proved to be a particularly busy month, with passenger traffic reaching 680,000 and 5,280 flight movements, showcasing annual increases of 14% and 9.6%, respectively.
During the holiday season from Dec. 20 to Dec. 25, MIA handled an average of over 22,000 passengers daily, peaking on Dec. 22 with a record 25,000 passengers in a single day.
Currently, 27 airlines operate at MIA, connecting the region to approximately 41 destinations across Mainland China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and Northeast Asia.
In addition to passenger growth, MIA’s cargo operations also flourished, achieving a volume of 108,000 tonnes, which marks a substantial year-on-year increase of about 70%.
The recent implementation ceremony for the Hengqin Upstream Cargo Terminal Project signals ongoing efforts to enhance local aviation logistics capabilities.
Looking ahead to 2025, MIA said in a statement that it plans to align with the government’s tourism development strategy by consolidating its market in mainland China while exploring new international opportunities.
