Former lawmaker Chim Pui-chung and his son Ricky Chim will be sentenced on February 3. The District Court heard their mitigation on Wednesday. They were found guilty of conspiracy to defraud more than HK$42 million in transactions linked to a listed company. The court earlier convicted Chim, who was the largest shareholder of Asia Resources, and his 55-year-old son, who was the chairman, for conspiring with mainland businessman Ma Zhonghong to defraud the company, its board and shareholders between July 2013 and November 2015. A woman Wong Poe-lai, was convicted of money laundering in connection with the case. Chim, 78, submitted more than 10 mitigation letters to the court, including letters from former Legco president Jasper Tsang Yok-sing and former financial secretary John Tsang. His defence lawyer also said Chim is in poor health. He had suffered from throat cancer, heart disease and a stroke. Judge Ernest Lin adjourned the case to February 3 for sentencing. All three defendants were remanded in custody until sentencing next month.
