The project director of Kai Tak Sports Park on Wednesday said the venue is well-positioned to showcase Hong Kong as a host city for mega events. At a ceremony announcing an exclusive partnership with HSBC, John Sharkey also unveiled plans to build the first outdoor AirBadminton court at a mall at the sports park. Sharkey said major facilities at the venue will be completed by the end of this year, and test events have been progressing well. “We believe that KTSB [Kai Tak Sports Park] will further leverage Hong Kong's advantages as a host city, providing more citizens with the opportunity to experience the resilience of our athletes first hand,” he said. “At the same time, we will nurture the next generation's involvement in sports, allowing them to showcase their talents on an international stage that they can be proud to call their home.” Speaking at the same event, CEO of HSBC Hong Kong, Luanne Lim, said she thinks the partnership will elevate Hong Kong's profile as a global sports hub. “Through this partnership, we want to support this active lifestyle by making recreational and sporting activities available to everyone, every day,” she said. “Sports unites us and brings people together, not just locally but across borders and across cultures.” Lim added the bank will open a new branch at the sports park to serve the local community and international visitors.
