A residential care home serving people with disabilities for almost six decades in Hong Kong is seeking support to enhance its care services for ageing residents. Home of Loving Faithfulness is one of the 11 beneficiaries of this year's Operation Santa Claus (OSC), and has been providing life-long care for children and adults with special needs since 1965. What sets this facility apart is its commitment to lifetime care, accepting residents as young as six years old and allowing them to stay indefinitely, the home's Superintendent Matthew Chu said. Chu said the charity has launched a project called Lifelong Services to address the increasing challenges in caring for elderly residents who experience deteriorating body functions. "When they age, the need for their caring [becomes] more challenging because sometimes their swallowing is not very good. Sometimes they have difficulties in excreting their urine," he said. Chu said the charity operates entirely on donations without government subsidies and it will use the funds from OSC to hire more staff and bring in professional services. "We will [use] the funds to hire additional staff and also we will [hire] professional services like occupational therapist services to come in to help these residents to maintain their health." Jointly organised by RTHK and South China Morning Post, OSC funds charitable projects that focus on children and youth, the elderly, the community, those with physical and mental disabilities, medical projects, and those concerning the environment. If you wish to make a donation, please visit the Operation Santa Claus website at https://oschk.org/.
