The Hospital Authority (HA) is to set up a committee to reform its governance and structure after the government ordered a review of its management following a spate of medical blunders. The Health Bureau said on Friday that the committee, to be formed under the HA's board, will be chaired by the authority's chairman, Henry Fan. Officials had been vetting a review report submitted over "systemic management issues" at the authority. Health chief Lo Chung-mau said his bureau agreed with the directions set out in 31 recommendations for enhancing the HA's governance and structure to provide better and safer healthcare services. "Henry Fan, being the reform committee chairman, is to steer the implementation of recommendations made in the review report regarding governance, accountability and distribution of responsibilities, and relevant reform work," the bureau said in a statement. It said the permanent secretary for health and the under secretary will join the committee, to give timely policy directions and guidance. Lo added that the HA will have to submit regular progress reports to the government to ensure that enhancement measures are implemented in a timely and effective manner.
