The T8 storm signal came into force at 11.10pm on Wednesday as Tropical Storm Toraji edges closer to the SAR. The Observatory said Toraji has been taking a more northerly track towards the coast of Guangdong in the past few hours, adding that local winds will strengthen further as the storm approaches the Pearl River Estuary. According to the present forecast track, Toraji will be closest to the Pearl River Estuary on Thursday morning, skirting around 150km south of the city. The Observatory said the T8 signal will remain in effect until at least 10am on Thursday. The Education Bureau said classes of all morning and whole-day schools, including secondary schools, primary schools, schools for children with physical disability, schools for children with intellectual disability, kindergartens, and kindergartens-cum-child care centres, will be suspended on Thursday. On public transport, KMB and Citybus said they will be suspending overnight bus services. The Home Affairs Department has opened more than 25 temporary shelters for those in need.
