Bowler Annie Cheung wins silver at Paralympics

SAR boccia athlete Annie Cheung on Monday added a silver medal for Hong Kong, China in the Paris Paralympics. The Paralympic debutant, 25, was defeated by China's Lin Ximei 5-1 in the women's individual BC4 final. Lin scored a point in each of the first two ends for a 2-0 lead. In the third end, a series of miscues by Cheung widened the gap, with Lin scoring three more times. Cheung picked up one point in the final and fourth end but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Lin's victory in the final avenged her loss to Cheung in their inaugural pool match in the preliminary round. Chief Executive John Lee congratulated Cheung on winning the silver medal, praising her for staying resilient against the world's best athletes throughout the competitions. Meanwhile, SAR table tennis player Leung Chung-yan ended his Paralympic debut when he was beaten in the last 16 of the men's MS-11 singles. He lost 6-11, 11-8, 6-11 and 6-11 to Peter Palos of Hungary. The Hong Kong, China team have now captured one gold, two silvers and a bronze at the Paris Paralympics. _____________________________Last updated: 2024-09-02 HKT 20:54
