Political heavyweights attending a seminar promoting the spirit of the third plenum on Monday said the session highlighted Hong Kong's role in national development. Two senior Beijing officials, Shen Chunyao and Wang Wentao, held a seminar on the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of China's Communist Party, which wrapped up in Beijing last month. The plenum adopted a resolution on further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernisation. Starry Lee, Hong Kong's sole delegate to the National People's Congress Standing Committee, told reporters after the seminar that the SAR can contribute in a lot of ways. "The two VIPs do suggest a lot of Hong Kong strengths, and the CE does suggest that we have to incorporate in our daily life. I totally agree with them, and we have to [take] action and we have to use Hong Kong's ability to contribute to the future of our country," she said. Executive councillor and lawmaker Jeffrey Lam said Hong Kong has to work harder to lure global talent and enterprises. "In the near future and also in the distant future, we have to attract more companies to come and settle in Hong Kong and also talent to come to Hong Kong to help us progress. Hong Kong can go from strength to strength," he said. "We do not have to worry too much about the fake news that is demonstrated by the liars everywhere around the world. We have to make sure that we do what is right for the country and for Hong Kong." Wong Yuk-shan, deputy director of the Basic Law Committee, said the session clearly spelled out the timeline for deepening reforms and the country's future plans.
