CE embarks on trip to Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam

Chief Executive John Lee on Sunday began a six-day trip to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to further explore business opportunities there. Speaking to reporters at the airport before leaving for Laos, Lee said he will persuade the three Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) countries to back Hong Kong's inclusion in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). "I will meet with local leaders to introduce Hong Kong's economic development and opportunities, and I will continue to seek their support for us to join the RCEP," he added. "Second, we will promote economic and trade networks in different regions. We will present Hong Kong's role as a-super connector and a 'super value-adder,' showcasing what we can offer such as professional services, our expertise, our connections, and how we can guide them to benefit from opportunities in Hong Kong and also enter the mainland market and more." The CE also noted that the combined population of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam totals around 120 million, describing them as a huge market and business prospect. Lee's delegation includes some 30 leaders from various business and technology sectors.
