Observatory says it may issue T1 on Saturday evening

The Observatory said on Saturday morning that it would consider issuing the Standby Signal No 1 that evening or at night. The forecaster said the tropical depression over the central part of the South China Sea was expected to move west towards Hainan Island throughout the day, maintaining a distance of more than 600 kilometres from the SAR. It said there would be swells and squally showers in the coming days, with strong winds offshore and on high ground. Members of the public are advised to stay away from the shores and refrain from engaging in water sports. Meanwhile Macau's forecaster issued Tropical Cyclone Signal No 1 on Saturday morning, saying it was expected to remain in force for the whole day. The meteorological bureau said it would consider issuing Signal No 3 during the day on Sunday. Forecasters say another tropical cyclone over the western North Pacific will move towards the seas near Taiwan in the next few days.
