Sitting in the secluded area of New Quebec Street, Boxcar Bar & Grill, a neighbourhood restaurant part of the eclectic Portman Village, is introducing a new summer menu serving satisfying, ingredient-led dishes with a focus on premium, ethically sourced British produce. 

Boxcar’s menu is robust, focusing on prime cuts grilled over a charcoal flame, alongside lighter summer options where vegetables take center stage, still utilising the grill. The concise, confident menu features starters like Runner Bean and Courgette Salad with Cashew and Parmesan, Roasted Scallops with Jerusalem Artichoke and Pancetta, and Herdwick Lamb Croquettes with Lovage and Shallots. Head Chef Harry Webb enhances the mayonnaise for the lamb croquettes with bright green mint and lovage oil for a fresh taste, while the lamb itself is marinated in yogurt and fresh herbs, tenderising the meat and enhancing its flavour. The main dishes include Pan-roasted Cod with Peas and Broad Beans and Beetroot Tart with Salsa Verde and Radicchio Salad. All meat cuts, such as the côte de bœuf, are sourced from The Ethical Butcher, known for glass-fed and regeneratively farmed practices.

For drinks, refreshing summer options include the Paloma Spritz and Spicy Peach Margarita. Desserts like Chocolate Marquise with Peanuts and Raspberry Coulis, and Millefeuille with Yorkshire Rhubarb and Crème Mousseline, are both offered with drink pairings. 

Harry says “Summer time calls for a light touch, lighter dishes but still full of flavour using our grill as the focal point for everything we do. It’s not just meat or fish that’s great cooked over fire, vegetables can be equally as delicious if you know what you’re doing”.
