BBC Saturday Kitchen host issues three-word response as wardrobe causes major distraction

Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt didn’t hold back as he shared a three-word response and said 'don't say it' after his wardrobe choice caused a major stir.

During today’s (January 11) episode of the hit BBC show the host was joined by guests Helen McGinn and Emilia Fox as he cooked up some of his famous dishes.

However, everyone in the studio as well as viewers watching at home were left distracted with Matt’s new look as he opted for a more casual look and wore a black zip up hoodie.

Turning to Helen, Matt asked: “Wow, wow, wow what was that face for?” Helen went on to say: “You know I’m about to say something I don’t want to but I’m going to say it anyway.”

Matt replied: “Well don’t. Don’t say it. If you’ve got nothing nice to say then don’t say anything at all.” Helen revealed: “There has been a poll asking if your top screams midlife crisis or not and at the moment 60% say it’s on the wrong side of midlife crisis.”

It was clear Matt was not phased by the results as he walked off and joked: “Just wait till I get an earring.”

Viewers watching at home were quick to share their reaction on X, formally known as Twitter. One viewer wrote: “#SaturdayKitchen .. Hmm, are all Matt Tebbutt’s clothes…in the wash?” Another said: “Matt has hoodie on or you could say cardigan wi hood n zip no drama #SaturdayKitchen.” (sic)

Meanwhile not everyone was against the new look, as one fan commented: “He’s wearing a hoodie….so what. He’s not presenting the news. #SaturdayKitchen.” (sic)

It comes as Mat faced an awkward moment just minutes before the show aired. Towards the end of today’s episode of BBC Breakfast, hosts Naga and Charlie cut to Saturday Kitchen, where Matt attempted to give viewers a glimpse of what they can expect from the show.

However, things took an awkward turn as the camera man accidentally used the wrong camera and revealed one of today’s guests. It didn’t go unnoticed, as Naga asked: “What you think, Helen and your guests... Is that Emilia Fox?”

Matt fumed: “Oh don’t give it away. Do you know how this works?” Naga hit back: “Well I do but did your director know how it works because they cut to a three shot.”

She added: “Your director did cut to a three shot and we did see Emilia, while they were laughing at you and not with you.”
