Carol Kirkwood delivers The One Show's 'one big thank you'

BBC's The One Show was temporarily interrupted today by a heartwarming episode of One Big Thank You, presented by Carol Kirkwood.

The BBC weather presenter travelled to Hornsea, a charming seaside town, to pay a surprise visit to Kate and Jackie, the founders of the Hornsea Dolphins, a women's swimming group.

The group has expanded to over 400 members, providing a sense of belonging and support for its members, many of whom have discovered a new passion for cold water swimming.

Carol surprised Kate and Jackie on the beach, accompanied by their friends in fancy dress, and revealed that she was there to honour them with The One Show's One Big Thank You.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Kate and Jackie, visibly emotional, laughed and began to tear up.

Speaking about their swimming group, Kate said: "This group, as a group, is absolutely phenomenal. The friendships that have been formed, the fun that we have... you would not think that Hornsea would have it in it."

Jackie added: "It's changed not our lives, but all our lives."

The celebration continued at a local cafe, where Carol shared heartfelt messages from their loved ones, reports Wales Online.

Kate, visibly moved, said: "Oh, I'm going to cry" as the videos began, which included a surprise message from her sister, Liz, in Spain.

With tears in her eyes, Kate expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the group, saying: "From the bottom of, I'm sure, both our hearts, thank you so very, very much. You're all absolutely amazing friends and we love you."

Tracey Riley, a member of Hornsea Dolphins, praised Kate in her Big Thank You nomination for fostering "creating a safe environment for like-minded women."

Anna Chipchase added to the chorus of praise, mentioning that the devoted members make waves "365 days a year" by rising early for their daily swim.

Nicola Marrow highlighted the deep bonds within the group, stating: "It's way more than a swimming group. It's friendship, it's connections, it's togetherness. It's a community."
