For fans who were captivated by the gritty '90s British classic Cracker and mesmerised by Stephen Graham's unforgettable role in This is England, BBC's cutting-edge drama Time is an absolute must-see.

Though it premiered back in 2021, the powerful drama Time slipped under the radar despite boasting a sterling 96% Rotten Tomatoes rating, a barrage of five-star accolades, and a trophy case brimming with top awards.

The show stars Sean Bean, aged 65, in the role of Mark Cobden alongside Stephen Graham, aged 51, delivering a gripping spectacle that promises to have viewers glued to their screens.

The series immerses you in the life of Mark, a schoolteacher incarcerated for his crime, besieged by profound guilt and struggling to navigate the harshness of prison culture, which leaves him utterly overwhelmed.

Bean's compelling depiction of Cobden intersects with the life of Eric McNally, a dedicated prison officer whose integrity is rocked when an inmate forces him to choose between adhering to his values and protecting his family reports the Mirror.

The powerful storyline has struck a chord with viewers, leading to rave reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Echoing the sentiments of many, one viewer commented: "Time is worth your time. A gritty and real portrayal of humans at their best, worst, and the interplay between the two."

Another viewer was left in awe, commenting: "I was absolutely amazed at the acting in this show. The script goes deep. I have yet to find a TV show that touches on what matters in life in a more truthful and raw way than this."

The acclaimed drama series has not only captivated audiences but also impressed critics, clinching the Best Mini-Series title at the 2022 BAFTAs, while Sean Bean secured the Best Actor award.

Season two of Time delves into the harsh realities of a women's correctional facility, introducing viewers to new storylines and complex characters. Jodie Whittaker stars as single mother Orla, struggling with the challenges of prison life alongside fellow inmates such as pregnant heroin addict Kelsey, played by Bella Ramsey, and lifer Abi, portrayed by Tamara Lawrance.

Although the second season didn't match the commercial success of its first, it still was a hit with show fans. A Rotten Tomatoes critic lauded the series, saying: "The first series was truly a high point in British drama, and this powerful follow-up is worthy of the same consideration."

Another critic echoed the sentiment, noting: "It gets stronger and more moving with every episode."

With just two seasons out, Time has already left fans clamouring for more. Despite the anticipation for a third season, BBC producers remain tight-lipped about the future of this compelling drama.

Time, series one and two, are available to watch now on BBC iPlayer
