A Place in the Sun: Jean Johansson ‘disappointed’ by couple

A Place In The Sun presenter Jean Johansson has confessed her parents become incredibly invested in her overseas property searches on the programme.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk she reflected on the "Placers" - the online fan community that religiously watch the show and air their opinions - and admitted her parents were equally guilty of having strong feelings about the epsiodes.

"People have opinions on properties, and they're allowed to have those opinions," she stressed. "It'd be boring if they liked all five properties in every episode - people would switch off.

"And people get upset. My parents were terrible for it," she laughed. "They'd be like, 'You worked so hard, you flew all that way, and they never bought a property'. I'm like, 'calm down - it doesn't work out this time [but] they will go back and they'll find a property. I've helped them for the next time'," she said.

"So I know from my own household that people get invested in whether they buy or not at the end."

Jean will be back on screens on Tuesday (January 7) helping more people find their dream home abroad.

The show has been moved to a new primetime slot of 6pm on Channel 4 for this season and Jean is very excited about this "promotion" for the aspirational property show saying it will "open it up to a wider audience".

"I think it sits really well at six o'clock. I just think it's a lovely time. And there might be more families sitting around watching it as well.

"You know, three o'clock kids are still in school, so maybe those sort of younger teenagers might be sitting around and it moves into the realms of being a family show," she enthused.

"It's exciting... there's going to be more eyes on it and I think it fits really well in that time slot, because there's so much drama in places and it's almost like a soap.

"You know you have people who deserve this property. They hate this one. They're in a bad mood. They buy it at the end.

"It's a script that we couldn't write if we tried. So I think that it fits really well in that time slot. And I just hope that even more people are going to enjoy it."

A Place In The Sun is on Channel 4 on weeknights at 6pm.
