BBC Breakfast hosts speak to World Darts Champion Luke Littler

BBC Breakfast's Sarah Campbell was forced to issue a statement to viewers after her co-star Ben Thompson sparked concern during an interview.

The hosts spoke to new PDC World Darts Champion Luke Littler following his championship win aged just 17 years old.

As the pair asked Luke about his win, viewers couldn't help noticing the huge display of a dart on the screen behind Ben and Sarah seemingly hitting Ben in the head.

Their comments were picked up by Sarah, who addressed the unfortunate interview moment on social media. She wrote: "The new World Darts Champion @LukeTheNuke180 speaking on @BBCBreakfast. And worry not … @BenThompsonTV is fine..despite apparently being speared by a mammoth dart (thanks to all the concerned viewers who flagged)."

One fan replied: "We were worried about that! We thought Ben had a "Double 10" on the back of his napper."

Another joked: "Your presenters should wear hard hats. Doctor I feel a sharp pain the back of my head," to which Sarah replied with a laughing face emoji.

A third fan simply replied with a smiling face and a thumbs up emoji, their concerns clearly alleviated by Sarah's public message.

Another fan gushed over Luke's win as they said: "What an amazing final, and what an incredibly talented man."

A second agreed: "Now and again a person injects life into a sport, Lake Littler has done exactly that for darts! Sarah."

Meanwhile, Ben asked Luke what it was like to win at such a young age as he said: "Luke, the title, youngest ever PDC World Darts Champion, you're 18 in a couple of weeks, a lot of people talk about your age and being able to be win such an amazing achievement at your age, does that ever go through your mind? Or do you think this is perfectly normal and what you would be doing?"

Ben replied: "It's not a normal 17 year old's life but it just goes back to my mum and dad did everything, got the right sponsors for me and the sponsors did a whole for me."

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC1.
