Corrie: Debbie Webster admits to Abi that she killed Ray
Coronation Street icon Sue Devaney is said to be furious after learning her fate on the ITV soap. The on-screen legend, 57, who has played Debbie Webster for 40 years, will reportedly be killed off in scenes set to air in 2025.
The sister of Kevin Webster will be diagnosed with dementia in harrowing upcoming scenes with the storyline set to take centre stage in the ITV soap opera next year.
The news allegedly came as a shock to the actress, who had no plans to leave the show and took time to process the decision.
A source told The Sun: "Sue was very shocked when she discovered she was being killed off.
"She was initially very sad and then furious and then upset again. It's taken her a long time to come to terms with it.
"She had no intention to leave the show and couldn't believe it when they called her in and broke the news."
According to insiders, despite the setback Sue is believed to be fully committed to her role.
Express Online has contacted a Coronation Street representative for comment.
Sue originally joined the cast in 1984 at 15 years old but remained for only a year.
She then reprised the role in 2019 and has remained with the programme ever since.
The Debbie Webster has become a firm favourite with fans over the past few years with many praising the actress as one of the soap's greatest comedy characters of recent years.
She is best known for being the owner of the Charriott Square Hotel and for her involvement with evil businessman Ray Crosby and his once planned takeover of the entire street.
