Crocodile Dundee stars now from tragic death to machete scandal and bitter divorce

Iconic 80's film, Crocodile Dundee, is still a favourite around the world today. The drama-filled 1986 movie saw an uncouth Australian bushman and a luxury-loving journalist fall in love.

It stars Paul Hogan as the weathered Mick Dundee and American actress Linda Kozlowski as reporter Sue Charlton. The film was made as a deliberate attempt to appeal to a mainstream Aussie audience, but proved to be a worldwide phenomenon.

Despite only having a budget of less than $10 million, it turned out to be the highest-grossing film of all time in Australia and the highest-grossing Australian film worldwide.

Earlier this week it was sadly reported that one of the stars of the show had died. Burt, the 110 pound saltwater Crocodile, was reportedly in his 90s when he passed away in a Darwin zoo.

But what happened to the reptiles co-stars four decades on from filming? From an 'ugly divorce' to machete madness, Express.co.uk takes a look.

Paul Hogan

Paul shot to fame in the Aussie talent show New Faces, where he performed as a tapdancing knife thrower, before going on to star in the classic film. While he took on a dramatic role, his life off screen has been somewhat dramatic too.

For seven years from 2003, he was investigated for tax evasion and fraud in Australia and America before being finally cleared. The star later received an undisclosed payout from the government, as he joked: "I did them like a dinner."

Paul has also had a somewhat chaotic love life as the 85-year-old has been married three times. Two of the marriages were to the mother of his five children, Nolene Edwards.

When they split it was described as Australia’s ugliest celebrity divorce. Meanwhile, Paul's third was to co-star Linda, who he was married to until 2014, when they cited “irreconcilable differences” and having nothing in common while getting divorced.

Linda Kozlowski

Linda played the role of reporter Sue Charlton, who fell for Paul's character Mick Dundee. It seems real life mimicked the film as the pair ended up having an affair that rocked Paul's marriage to the mother of his children.

The co-stars got hitched in 1990 and had one son together, Chance, before getting divorced in 2014. Linda, 66, has been with Moroccan tour guide Moulay Hafid Baba and splits her time between Marrakesh and Los Angeles.

As for her career, following Crocodile Dundee she struggled to land any more parts and eventually quit acting to focus on being a mother. In 2001, she told the Herald Journal: “These straight-to-video, schlocky films I was getting were giving me an ulcer basically because I was the only one on the set that cared about anything.”

Steve Rackman

After playing the role of Donk in Crocodile Dundee, former wrester Steve Rackman stepped away from the limelight and opened several gyms. He then sold them and retired back in 2010.

Caitlin Clarke

Caitlin portrayed the role of Simone, a friendly sex worker, in Crocodile Dundee. After several small roles after the film she soon returned to her first love - theatre.

However, in 2000 the actress was sadly diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died four years later, aged 52.

David Gulpilil

David was a talented ceremonial dancer and hunter before landing film roles including Neville Bell in Crocodile Dundee. While he was doing well on the big screen, his life off-screen was in turmoil.

He struggled with alcoholism and ran into trouble with the law a number of times. In 2006, David was charged with carrying an offensive weapon after drawing a machete during an altercation but was later cleared as the blade was deemed useful for cultural purposes.

The actor also served a 12-month prison stint after breaking his wife's arm which led to him going sober. David was later diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2017 and died four years on, aged 68.
