Ted the Dog loses Employee of the Year to Paul Whitehouse

Fans of BBC's Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Christmas Fishing were thrilled when the duo's trusty canine companion Ted appeared hailing him the "star of the show".

The episode saw the team decamp to France to experience the fishing there leading to many hilarious moments as Bob struggled with the language. But it was Ted who really grabbed everyone's attention.

Viewers took to X to share their love for the adorable Patterdale Terrier who has been a fixture on the show since season three. The pooch showed up as Bob and Paul awarded the Gone Fishing Employee of the Year award.

Dressed in a cute doggy tuxedo Ted looked to be a shoe in to win at the ceremony. Although he lost out to Paul he seemed rather non plussed by the whole thing.

"Ted! The star of the show has arrived! #GoneFishing," one exclaimed. "So happy Ted turned up #GoneFishing," another enthused.

"Ah lovely Ted has entered the building," a third commented. "Nobody, not even James Bond, looks as good in a tuxedo as Ted. #GoneFishing," a third gushed referring to his outfit.

Another enthused: "TED!! It’s a Christmas miracle! #GoneFishing." Meanwhile a sixth posted a GIF of a crowd cheering and captioned it: "The nation when Ted turned up #GoneFishing."

Ted has become a sensation since joing the show and has written a book called A Pawtobiography: My adventures on Gone Fishing.

It details his journey from a skinny, unwanted pup who was dumped outside an animal shelter, to finding fame and fortune alongside Bob and Paul on the show.

He also shares his experiences working with the pair and gives his unique perspective on the world of dogs. The publishers stress "nearly all of it is true".

He is also an Ambassadog for the Assistance Dog Assessment Association (ADAA), and has helped raise awareness for charities that support mental health and wellbeing.

Last year he helped the charity raise funds by walking with his friends at a Christmas 2023 Charity Dog walk.

Like all the best celebrities he boasts a carefully curated Instgram account @ted_gonefishing where he has amassed 213,000 followers.
