ZERO DAY official Netflix trailer starring Robert DeNiro

Netflix has dropped a gripping teaser for its upcoming limited series Zero Day, featuring Hollywood heavyweight Robert De Niro. The tense thriller sees De Niro as ex-U.S. president George Mullen, drawn back into the fray to probe a nationwide cyberattack.

The lethal assault has claimed thousands of lives, and the race is on to uncover the culprits. The Netflix drama follows De Niro's character, the head of the Zero Day Commission, as he hunts down those responsible for the catastrophic event causing havoc and death across the nation.

The plot summary further reveals: "As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen's unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear."

The series also poses the question: Is the real threat external or internal?

Joining De Niro in this star-studded ensemble are renowned actors such as Angela Bassett, Jesse Plemons, Dan Stevens, Lizzy Caplan, Joan Allen, Connie Britton, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, Gaby Hoffmann and Clark Gregg, reports the Mirror US.

The newly released teaser trailer from Netflix sets the scene, with De Niro's character Mullen ominously stating: "Three thousand, four-hundred, two people died on Zero Day. Plane crashes, train derailments. Total chaos."

Angela Bassett's character delivers a chilling line in the show, asserting: "People believe what they need to believe. The truth is the truth, but it's not always the most important thing."

Zero day is written and executive produced by Narcos' Eric Newman, Jackie's Noah Oppenheim and Michael S. Schmidt, while Homeland's Lesli Linka Glatter serves as executive producer and director.

Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum about the upcoming show, Newman said: “Zero Day is about the aftermath of a devastating cyberattack that kills thousands of people and threatens to push a nation already on the precipice over the edge.”

Oppenheim reflected: “The show also looks at the cost of power for those who are asked to take on these enormous challenges — what it means for them personally, and what it means for their families.”

Speaking about De Niro, who is also a producer on the series, Newman added: “He] very much became our partner in this process — very hands-on, very involved, read everything at every stage, and it’s been an incredible honor and privilege.

“You can count on one hand the actors and actresses in history who bring this level of gravitas, pedigree, and talent to their work.”

Meanwhile, reflecting on his current project, De Niro lamented: “Right now, our actual world is scarier.”

Zero Day is coming to Netflix on February 20.
