Virgin River season 6 official trailer
Warning - this article contains major spoilers for Virgin River season 6.
Virgin River has left viewers on the edge of their seats with a cliffhanger ending in season six, leaving fans to grapple with a multitude of unanswered questions after a jaw-dropping finale twist.
The season wrapped up with Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) finally saying 'I do' in a picturesque wedding, only to be hit with the bombshell that Jack's ex, Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley), has vanished without a trace.
Throughout the season, Charmaine has been entangled in a dangerous liaison with local criminal Calvin (David Cubbit), who has discovered he is the father of her twins and is intent on being part of their lives.
In a tense conclusion to the season, Jack rushes over to Charmaine's house after she fails to appear at the wedding and hasn't been spotted for hours, only to find her home turned upside down, reports the Daily Record.
As he opens a door to the sound of a haunting lullaby, his expression turns to one of horror, and the episode abruptly ends, leaving viewers in suspense.
Speculation is rife among fans about what fate has befallen Charmaine. Some suspect she may have come to harm or even met her demise, with the twins potentially abducted by Calvin.
Yet, there's a twist in the tale as some viewers have proposed alternative scenarios on Reddit.
One user speculated, "I'm thinking Charmaine is dead and babies are with Calvin. They were definitely foreshadowing it," but then seemed to second-guess their own theory.
"Unless Charmaine staged the house to make it seem like something happened and ran away with the babies," they continued. "Somewhere where Calvin can't find them."
Another avid viewer has their own plot prediction, asserting: "No one is in the bedroom. To get away from Calvin, Charmaine took the babies to Oregon where her aunt lives and previously offered for her to bring the twins and live with her."
There are also more sinister suspicions floating around amongst the fanbase. One grim theory has it that: "Charmaine and Calvin had a fight, he died, she took kids and run away... and Jack found his body," according to one comment.
"I was thinking Charmaine standing over Calvin's body holding a gun? Or just the body and an empty apartment," another surmised.
Meanwhile, a different fan speculates a narrative: "I think he saw a body. And I think it will be Calvin, I think Charmaine will go to prison and she asks Mel and Jack to take care of the twins.
"(I think they will end up with three kids, including the baby from the surrogate mother)."
Just before the cliffhanger conclusion, Marley (Rachel Drance) disclosed to Mel the bombshell news that the prospective adoptive parents for her child are out of the picture, proposing Jack and Mel as caregivers instead.
Should the theory about Charmaine eliminating Calvin and fleeing with the children come to pass, she might find herself imprisoned, compelling Mel and Jack into a complex choice concerning their pathway as a couple.
Until the release of season seven, don't expect any revelations from Henderson, as it was recently disclosed by the showrunner that even he was in the dark about what he was supposed to be seeing.
Patrick Sean Smith revealed to TVLine: "Martin did not actually know what he was seeing.
"It's a testament to his acting talent that he was able, in a single look, to create several possible outcomes of what he was seeing. At one point, I was like, 'Guys, what if we come back in this moment and it's just like a Peloton? Maybe Jack didn't know she had a Peloton!'
"But yeah, Charmaine has found herself in the middle of a mess again, which is where her character tends to reside."
Virgin River season 6 is available to stream on Netflix.
