Prison Break: Official trailer for Season 1
Fans couldn't get enough of Prison Break when it aired for five seasons from 2005 to 2017, and now the hit show is returning.
According to Variety, a pilot episode for a reboot has been ordered by Hulu, who previously confirmed the series was in a development stage back in November 2023.
However, despite the exciting update, viewers won't be happy as the original stars will not be returning this time around. This version will exist in the same universe as the original prison drama but will focus on a new batch of prison inmates, with a different set of actors taking the show forward.
Creator Paul Scheuring is back to executive produce the series alongside Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Neil Moritz and Elgin James. The original show aired four seasons on Fox before ending in 2009. It was revived in 2017 for a fifth season but wasn't taken forward beyond that.
It revolved around two brothers, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) as they navigated prison life.

The first season focused on Lincoln, who had been sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit while Michael devised an elaborate plan to help his brother escape from prison.
As well as the two lead stars, Prison Break also featured stars Robin Tunney, Peter Stormare, Amaury Nolasco, Marshall Allman, Wade Williams and Paul Adelstein.
The critically-acclaimed show was a hit with audiences, bringing in huge ratings for Fox in it's heyday. It was nominated for several big awards including the 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Drama and the 2006 People's Choice Award for Favourite New TV Drama, which it won.

The success of the series spawned a video game, titled Prison Break: Proof of Innocence, online webisodes, an official magazine and a novel.
Despite not returning for the reboot, Prison Break fans were treated to some excited news earlier this year as it was revealed that Dominic and Wentworth were reuniting for a new project.
The pair will be appearing alongside one another in a hostage drama titled Snatchback, which is inspired by a true story. It will follow a covert intelligence officer and will follow a team as they attempt to rescue hostages across the world.
All five seasons of Prison Break are available to watch on both Netflix and Disney+. A release date for the reboot is yet to be revealed.
