Beth Rigby calls out Keir Starmer over his speech

Sky News' political editor Beth Rigby issued a major complaint about Prime Minister Keir Starmer just moments before he addressed the nation with his "plans for change."

In her analysis, she revealed: "There will be something on disposable income going up, there will be something on early years education, something on green energy, there will be something on police.

However, after Starmer addressed the nation, Rigby admitted she was "confused" as she called out the Prime Minister.

She stated: "You say migration in this country under the Tories is unforgivable, you said borders are one of your top two priorities, you put tackling small boats into your mission promises before the election, adding it to your five missions.

"Yet on the banners behind you, there's nothing there; in the six milestones of measurement, there's nothing there. So you have not given the public one metric on which to measure you when it comes to migration."

Rigby questioned: “Is that because you fear failure or is it because you said it was a priority to win but actually it’s not even in your top six?”

Starmer responded: “No Beth, the way we’ve constructed this is there are foundational things that the government must do, and they are based on security.

“National security is obvious, border security is equally obvious in my view and that’s why I’ve said we are committed to bring down immigration.

“We must stop people crossing in the boats across the channel, and we have to get to the grips of the volume of regular migration we have in this country.”

The Prime Minister continued: “The statistics last week were shocking, net migration of nearly a million.

“Quadurapled in just four short years, it is the duty of government to bring that down, it is our duty to do it, and that’s why I said it out in my speech.

“The missions are the additional things that we want the government to do, the change we want to bring about.

“That’s why we set them out in our manifesto, into the chapters of our manifesto. That was an example of how we would deliver that and the plan for change then takes that forward with measurable milestones," Starmer concluded.
