Shetland is making a comeback on BBC One, with the drama intensifying as the ninth season draws to a close next week. The detective series has featured Anne Kidd in the role of forensic pathologist Cora McLean since its second season.

The medical doctor often assists Shetland Police as an informal Crime Scene Investigator. The 77-year-old Scottish actress now resides in Perthshire after spending much of her professional life in London.

Her acting career spans back to the 60s and includes roles in major shows like Outlander and Vigil. One of her earliest parts was in Coronation Street, where she played a ward nurse caring for street residents hospitalised following a coach crash on their return from the Lake District.

On stage, she has graced productions such as Cyrano de Bergerac, The Country Wife and Cinderella. Her career boasts extensive work both on stage and screen.

While not much is known about Anne's personal life, her prolific acting career speaks volumes.

She first gained recognition as Kitty in the series The Revenue Men in 1967, before starring in Dr Finlay's Casebook in the late 60s.

By the mid-70s, she was portraying multiple characters in The Love School, and in the 80s, she assumed a larger role as Moira Reilly in Take the High Road.

By the late 90s, she had appeared in Gregory's Two Girls and the TV movie Split Second.

In 2016, she gained recognition for her portrayal of Meredith in the TV mini-series 'One of Us', and that same year, she played the grandmother in 'Millie Inbetween'.

Prior to the recent season of 'Shetland', she took on the role of an elderly woman in the project 'Another End'.

This follows her guest roles in 'Doctors', 'Outlander' and 'Vigil'.
