This Morning: Dermot O’Leary issues warning to GBBO judge

Dermot O'Leary, joining forces with Cat Deeley for today's This Morning, disclosed his "unfinished business" with a Great British Bake Off judge.

The ITV host unveiled how he was "upset at the time" after judge Prue Leith took a rather severe swipe at him post his receipt of one of the coveted 'Hollywood Handshakes' from none other than Paul Hollywood.

He remembered the pride he had in his culinary effort, which was quickly deflated by Prue's biting remark.

Prue supposedly remarked to Dermot that she "wouldn't have given him a handshake" for his baking efforts - and he has now addressed the moment ahead of her appearance on the show tomorrow.

Responding to Cat's query if he was "upset" by the exchange, he acknowledged he was "at the time".

The discussion unfolded as Cat inquired why Dermot "wasn't singing the theme tune today", leading him to say: "No, because I was thinking about Prue Leith."

"What were you thinking about her," Cat dug deeper, prompting Dermot to explain: "When I did Bake Off last year, I got a Hollywood handshake for my ice buns."

Elaborating on the experience, he shared: "It was an absolute dream. Very happy, right? Then Prue Leith came up straight away and said, 'I wouldn't have given you a handshake for that.'"

Consequently, Dermot declared they have "unfinished business" as Cat erupted into laughter, reports the Mirror.

Despite the past critique, Dermot maintained that Prue was nonetheless "very nice", before Cat pressed on, asking: "Were you upset? Did it detract from the moment?"

"I was then, yes!" Dermot O'Leary conceded, reminiscing about his past victory despite mixed feelings. He said: "It wasn't all bad because I still won." Cat then added: "Sorry Prue!"

Earlier this year, Dermot emerged triumphant as the Star Baker on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, aired on Channel 4. Competing with him were Spice Girl Mel B, aged 48, comedian Fern Brady at 37, and 38 year old radio presenter Greg James.

They faced the challenge of creating iced buns in the Signature round, followed by crafting biscuit versions of their celebrity doppelgangers for the Showstopper.

In reaction to his win at the time, Dermot expressed: "'I'm thrilled. I genuinely thought Fern was going to win because she's been knocking it out the park the last couple of weeks. I'm going to have it framed!"

The task for the Signature bake required the stars to bake a set of eight iced buns, infusing personal significance into their confectionery creations. Dermot opted to whisk up an 80s-inspired fruits of the forest iced buns, as an ode to his childhood days.

Judge Paul Hollywood regarded Dermot's bake as a nostalgic journey, granting him the esteemed handshake that left Dermot truly "choked up".

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITVX.
