Chris McCausland makes Wonka joke to Cynthia Erivo

Comedian Chris McCausland has impressed viewers with his incredible dance moves on this year's Strictly Come Dancing - but he made an awkward blunder in front of a Wicked star.

Paired with professional Dianne Buswell, the comic has been going from strength to strength each week, with the Great British Public rallying behind him and voting for him to stay.

Chris appeared on Friday's (November 22) episode of The Graham Norton Show and was joined on the iconic red couch by Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo and James Norton.

West End star Cynthia was discussing her role in the new Wicked movie, which prompted Chris to throw in a joke. After she revealed how Wicked is adjacent to The Wizard of Oz, Chris quipped: "It's Wonka, but for Oz."

Hollywood star James looked confused as he asked: "I'm still not getting it," as Chris referenced Cynthia by adding: "She's not buying this at all."

She shot back: "I'm letting you have that one. So Wonka was the origin story of Willy Wonka. So Wicked, which I will say has been around for 20 years, so this came before Wonka."

Graham attempted to move on the conversation as he joked: "Back off Chris McCausland," as the guests and audience cheered at the funny moment.

Elsewhere in the show, Chris discussed his journey on Strictly and how his experience at the Blackpool Tower ballroom was.

He expressed: "Being at Blackpool was wonderful – it’s like the Wembley of ballroom dancing. I’m actually surprised I’m still in it. It was perfect and I celebrated like I’d won the FA cup!"

Speaking more about how he found learning the choreography as he's unable to see, he explained: "“When we started, we didn’t have a clue how we would do it so decided to wing it and see what happens.

"I had never been taught to dance and she (Dianne) had never taught anyone that couldn’t see.

"She sometimes describes what needs doing, sometimes I have to get on my hands and knees and figure out what she is doing with her legs and feet, and sometimes she picks a part of me and put it where she wants it.

"I’m like a bendy Spiderman! But whatever it is we are doing it is working."

Wicked is in cinemas now. Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7:05pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
