GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has issued a stern warning to the government over the impact of Storm Bert, urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to take urgent action.

On Monday's programme, the 64-year-old former This Morning host criticised the government's handling of the situation, saying: "There is not enough priority in government for this. All this talk about needing more money for this and that—get real. This is the kind of thing that will devastate you."

Holmes also insisted on the need for the government to prioritise investment in flood defences as Storm Bert continues to cause widespread damage.

He added: "There's no point waiting for the storms to happen, We've got to get ahead of the game. We have got to concentrate on more money for defences.

Meanwhile, his co-star Isabel Webster said: "Let's not forget the farms in all of this. More flooding is terrible for agriculture and food security. It's really bad the weather situation for farmers at the moment."

Storm Bert has caused severe disruptions across many areas in the UK over the weekend. The storm has brought heavy rain, high winds, and snow, particularly affecting Wales and southern England.

A major incident was declared in South Wales after dozens of homes, businesses, and a number of schools were affected by the flooding.

Last night, the Prime Minister confirmed he had spoken with Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan regarding the flooding in Wales and added that he was receiving ongoing updates as Storm Bert unfolded.

Sir Keir Starmer posted on X saying: “I’ve spoken with @PrifWeinidog about the severe weather and flooding in Wales.

“Thank you to the emergency services who are working tirelessly to protect communities — my thoughts are with those impacted.

“I’m receiving updates on Storm Bert as it develops across the UK.” Tragically a man was found dead on Sunday after being swept away in a river in North Wales.

A Welsh Government spokesperson said the weekend has been “exceptionally difficult and disruptive” due to Storm Bert and the “trauma and upset this causes should never be underestimated”.

The spokesperson added: “Given the scale of the impact, it will be vital that people continue to take extra care over the coming days and follow official advice. As the focus moves to recovery, it is important that those affected receive ongoing support and we will play our part alongside our partners in delivering that.

“Despite the significant impacts, it appears that flood defences played a role in protecting many homes and businesses, and we will continue our investment programme to make communities even more resilient to severe weather events in future.”
