This Morning: Cat and Ben begin their 'Christmas Countdown'

This Morning viewers were less than impressed during the latest broadcast as the programme embraced a yuletide theme right from the off.

Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard resumed their presenting duties on Wednesday (November 6), providing a first look at the upcoming segments. Yet, despite only just beginning the show, the duo sparked with joy as they grooved to Slade's festive hit, Merry Xmas.

The studio, partially adorned in holiday finery, set the scene as Cat and Ben reminded everyone that Christmas was a mere seven weeks away. The two delved into a chat about top toys and also hinted at a future segment tackling Christmas cons.

However, this seasonal zeal did not sit well with the audience. Upset fans took to X, voicing their chagrin.

One nettled netizen remarked: "It is 7 weeks away so no need to mention it yet," reports the Mirror.

An irked viewer expressed: "The last thing I need to be reminded about is Christmas when you have people suffering across the world still to this day."

Another chimed in: "Christmas is ages away. F off already with all of this #thismorning."

Meanwhile, one observant spectator suggested that "This Morning" might be using the festive fluff to divert attention from Donald Trump's presidential victory, despite briefly touching upon it earlier. They observed: "Well, this is going to be a great show, why not sweep the biggest story in the world today under the rug and talk about these so-called 'Christmas scams'".

In September, This Morning faced criticism once more as some fans expressed discontent over another Christmas-themed segment. Disgruntled viewers lambasted the show, levelling accusations of "scraping the barrel" after featuring a guest who celebrates Christmas daily.

One irate viewer took to Twitter and vented: "Well done producers, you have made the viewers hate the show even more. F****n Christmas segments in September."

Meanwhile, another viewer shared similar sentiments: "I love Christmas because it's not everyday of the year, it's a special time of year which I love decorating the house for but I couldn't do that everyday of the year."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1
