Only Fools And Horses fans have been left stunned after discovering that the beloved BBC classic wasn't actually filmed in London.

The popular show, which catapulted Sir David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst to fame as Del and Rodney Trotter, is set in Nelson Mandela House in Peckham. However, while a few scenes from the iconic sitcom, first aired in 1981, were shot in West London, a significant portion of the production took place in Bristol.

From the late 80s and particularly throughout the 90s, the show was produced in the West Country until its conclusion in 2003. Bristol's Whitemead House tower block frequently appears in the series as Nelson Mandela House, the location of the Trotters' flat.

Just around the corner are the lock-up garages where Del Boy and Rodney hid their loot, including the old pocket watch that eventually made them millionaires. In the Ashton area of Bristol, you'll find the Miles Motor Company, which served as Boycie's car showroom.

Also located in this neighbourhood is the Ashton Gate stadium, whose car park doubled as the renowned Peckham market. Another notable marketplace is the Broadwalk Shopping Centre, situated on the city outskirts, where Del Boy unsuccessfully attempted to sell some questionable toy dolls.

Meanwhile, the city's Park Avenue served as the backdrop for the iconic episode Heroes and Villains, where the masked Trotter brothers fend off muggers attempting to snatch a handbag. Later in the same episode, Rodney finds himself pursued by one of the thieves, only to be rescued by his elder brother, Del.

In another part of town, the White Horse in Bedminster was transformed into the local Peckham pub, the Nag's Head, where numerous scenes were shot.

Meanwhile, Bristol's Belgo starred in the side-splitting fan favourite episode Yuppy Love. Fans will recall the memorable scene where Del Boy tumbles through an open hatch while trying to charm some "sorts" in a posh wine bar with Trigger.

Despite its immense popularity among millions of UK fans, David Jason recently confessed that he believed the show had made a significant blunder with one of its plotlines. The seasoned actor thinks it was a mistake for the Trotters to become millionaires after they finally achieved their dreams of striking it rich in the 1996 Christmas special Time On Our Hands.

Explaining that the episode marked a conclusive end as the family's financial woes and attempts to earn cash were central to the series' humour, he shared with an audience at a fan convention: "There was nowhere to go after the Trotters became millionaires and it all worked out.

"It was the end of a journey and the journey was that struggle for survival, the struggle for the family, the way that they behaved, that interaction and all of that stuff that made the Trotters ceased to exist once they had become millionaires, if you like."
