Black Doves: Keira Knightley stars in Netflix trailer

One of the year's most highly anticipated series is on the horizon, and Netflix enthusiasts have just been treated to a sneak peek of the thrilling action.

A high-stakes spy thriller is set to captivate audiences, starring Happy Valley's Sarah Lancashire as a magnetic spymaster.

The agents under her wing include Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley and the voice of Paddington, Ben Whishaw, who has also played James Bond's Q.

A newly unveiled trailer teases a show that seamlessly blends seductive and intense moments, complete with numerous twists to keep viewers on the edge of their seats this holiday season.

According to the official synopsis: "Set against the backdrop of London at Christmas, BLACK DOVES is a sharp, action-filled, and heartfelt story of friendship and sacrifice", reports the Mirror.

"It follows Helen Webb (played by Knightley), a quick-witted, down-to-earth, dedicated wife and mother - and professional spy. For 10 years, she's been passing on her politician husband's secrets to the shadowy organisation she works for: the Black Doves.

"When her secret lover Jason (Andrew Koji) is assassinated, her spymaster, the enigmatic Reed (Lancashire), calls in Helen's old friend Sam (Whishaw) to keep her safe.

"Together, Helen and Sam set off on a mission to investigate who killed Jason and why, leading them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy linking the murky London underworld to a looming geopolitical crisis."

Netflix subscribers are eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new thriller, set to debut on December 5th, which is predicted to be one of the most discussed shows of 2024.

"Keira and Ben are going all John Wick in here. I never thought I will see that day. This I got to see," another fan remarked.

A third chimed in with: "Keira Knightley in a secret spy movie? I'll be SAT."

The trailer also sparked an enthusiastic response when it was posted on Reddit. One Netflix viewer commented: "This trailer hit all the right notes for me, looking forward to watching this. Seems like a great mix of action, drama, and comedy."

"Looks good, a must watch," another user wrote. Yet another subscriber was drawn in by the star-studded cast, replying: "I will watch anything with Ben Whishaw in it, I am even curious to see how he does in an action orientated role."

"I like Kiera Knightley as well. But Sarah Lancashire is in makes it a cherry on top. It looks like it will have good action scenes, am sure there will be some plot and story around all that." (sic).

Lastly, a user pointed out that the creator of Giri/Haji, Joe Barton, is behind the new thriller, writing: "I'll likely watch anything this creator makes, including this which looks great."

They also observed: "That early second season renewal screams confidence, hope it's justified."
