Coronation Street viewers are on the edge of their seats as they try to solve the mystery surrounding the murder of villainous solicitor Joel Deering, played by Calum Lill.
The character's disappearance was recently revealed to be due to a fatal attack, with many residents of the cobbles under suspicion. The only known facts so far are that Joel met his end on the night of September 27, likely at the hands of a heavy weapon such as a crowbar.
Earlier this month, the popular ITV soap announced that a series of revealing flashbacks would assist fans in piecing together the puzzle. These have already included scenes featuring potential culprits Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan), Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges), and Joel's former partner Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown).
In a recent twist, attention has turned to DS Lisa Swain, portrayed by Vicky Myers, who has been removed from the investigation. Her daughter Betsy, played by Sydney Martin, becomes suspicious of her mother after noticing bruises and discovering painkillers dated the day following Joel's death next week.
Meanwhile, it seems Carla Connor, brought to life by Alison King, may also be concealing something as she fabricates an alibi and enlists her family to support her story next week. With Ronnie, Mason, Ed, Dee-Dee, DS Swain, and Carla all hinted as possible suspects, here's a rundown of all the clues you might have overlooked so far..., reports the Liverpool Echo.
CCTV footage
Earlier this month, Joel's concerned dad, Gus Deering, played by Chris Garner, was seen looking for updates about his missing son. However, new evidence emerged showing Gus hovering around a locker that Joel had previously been spotted at.
After dragging Gus in for questioning, he admitted Joel had deposited £15K in the locker for a year's rent on a flat in Flint but never returned to collect the keys. With Joel's father, Gus, already proved to be lying before... what other secrets does he have? It comes amid viewers speculating that Gus could be a suspect.
Bizarre scene
Soap watchers will recall that before Joel went missing he had a bizarre interaction with Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson, where he pretended to be drunk in front of the cobbles icon. But why was Joel pretending to be drunk and was he forced to do this by his murderer?
Suspicious behaviour
Only recently on the cobbles, DS Swain sparked concern amongst viewers as she was seen struggling with an injury and almost throwing up amid the Joel murder whodunnit. With spoilers now showing daughter Betsy concerned about her mother's behaviour next week, what is Lisa hiding and was she involved in Joel's death?
Dodgy background
Kit Green, played by Jacob Roberts, has taken over investigating Joel's case. However, soap watchers have seen the dodgy copper do a series of questionable things over the past few months, these include planting evidence to frame Nathan Curtis for Lauren's then disappearance and blackmailing criminals, as well as residents on the cobbles. Could Kit have been working with Joel or is he responsible for his death?
Picture detail
Meanwhile, Sharon Marshall, soap expert on This Morning, has seemingly hinted that it's actually someone else entirely than the current line-up. An old spoiler picture of four of them - Mason, Ed, Ronnie, and Dee-Dee - all standing in the police station has resurfaced, with Sharon hinting that it could be someone else altogether, given there's a spare seat in the photo. Could this be a clue it's someone we're least expecting?
Coronation Street continues on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV X.
