Fans of The Chase were left feeling "heartbroken" as one player was sent home this evening. Chaser Shaun Wallace admitted that the player in seat one was "the best player ever" as he sent him home with nothing.
Host Bradley Walsh had welcomed on four new players as usual - Tom from Liverpool, Jessica from Lincoln, Felix from Ilfracombe and Linda from Lowestoft. Together they worked as a team to take on the Chaser with the aim of building a cash pot for the final round.
The game got off to an excellent start with Liverpudlian Tom answering every single question correctly in the cash builder round. He ended the first quickfire round with £10,000.
While making his offers, Shaun told the player not to go for the lower offer of £3,000. When offering a high offer of £60,000, the chaser said: "Tom, you're probably one of the best players I've ever played against in my 14 years of The Chase. Try this for size."
After conferring with his team, Tom decided to go high. However, the next round did not end so well for the contestant and he was ultimately caught with one question to go.
Shaun praised him saying: "That was a superb effort. I'm telling you, I think you are the best player I've ever met."
Deflated, Tom replied: "I'll take that as a huge compliment, thank you. You've got to go for it, haven't you." As he walked away, he added: "No regrets."
Fans at home were devastated with the outcome. Posting to social media, one X/Twitter user wrote: "Heartbreak!! Unlucky. That’s depressing for a Monday. Dang it #thechase."
