Coronation Street: Gemma and Chesney argue over money
Coronation Street's beloved character, Gemma Winter, portrayed by Dolly-Rose Campbell, has said her goodbyes to the famous cobbles after a tumultuous few months.
Since joining the soap in 2014, Gemma quickly became a fan favourite with her colourful past and the challenge of raising four lively quadruplets.
Gemma's life on the street has been anything but quiet, recently marred by the tragic death of her twin brother Paul (Peter Ash), who was diagnosed with MND last year and sadly passed away in September. The loss has taken a toll on Gemma, who is grappling with her grief more than she lets on.
In Monday's episode (October 21), Gemma returned to work at The Rovers Return, despite her husband Chesney's (Sam Aston) concerns that it might be too soon. However, the pressure proved too much for Gemma, forcing her to take a break in the back of the pub.
She found comfort in her brother Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who offered her a respite in his friend's Lake District cottage. In a move that will disappoint fans, Gemma decided to take a break from the cobbles.
After discussing the idea with Chesney, who agreed she should go, Gemma is set to leave Weatherfield following a challenging few months, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Coronation Street enthusiasts were left heartbroken as news broke of Gemma's temporary departure from the cobbles. A fan lamented on a Corrie Facebook fan page: "She is playing her character so well and going through hell."
"So I'm not surprised she is having time out she just needs time out and find herself again." Another fan commented, while a third expressed surprise at the suddenness of the break: "Seems a bit sudden."

Dolly-Rose Campbell, who has won the hearts of viewers as Gemma, had a stint as a bartender before her acting career soared, a job that proved useful for her role in the Rovers Return.
Reflecting on her past, Dolly once shared: "I've worked behind a bar in real life, it was before Coronation Street when I worked in radio. I did hospitality and bar work."
The actress recounted a serendipitous moment shortly after auditioning for the part of Gemma Winter, revealing during an interview: "I'd had an audition before the tour but I wasn't expecting anything. While we were walking around my friend said, 'Imagine if you got a job on it' and I was saying that would never happen. Just a couple of days later I got a call saying I had the part."
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
