The internet's next choice for James Bond has been revealed - but it isn't Aaron Taylor-Johnson, despite rumours of him being Barbara Broccoli’s choice.

Daniel Craig took on the role in 2006, eventually bidding farewell to the franchise with the moving No Time To Die ending in 2021. Since then, there have been few official announcements regarding who will replace him.

According to Betway Casino, Aaron has now been pushed off top spot. It comes as new research analysed the number of Google searches, articles, article engagement and Reddit mentions for 31 potential actors to see who had created the most hype online making one actor a firm fan favourite to become the 007 spy.

Using the data, Henry Cavill, well-known for playing roles like Superman and the starring role in Netflix’s fantasy series The Witcher, was revealed to be the favourite to play 007 in the next James Bond film.

Coming in a close third place was Idris Elba, with Tom Hardy coming in fourth place and Cillian Murphy in fifth.

It is no surprise that fans think Henry Cavill is a contender for the iconic 007 role, as he was runner-up to Daniel Craig for Casino Royale in the last round of Bond auditions almost 20 years ago.

Speaking about his audition, Casino Royale director Director Martin Campbell told Variety: "He looked great in the audition. His acting was tremendous.

"And look, if Daniel didn't exist, Henry would have made an excellent Bond. He looked terrific, he was in great physical shape… very handsome, very chiselled. He just looked a little young at that time back then."

However, now in his 40's, addressing the speculation that he could be in the running once more, Cavill said:"I have no idea. All I've got to go off is the rumors. The same information you have.

"Maybe I'm too old now, maybe I'm not. It's up to Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson and we'll see what their plans are."

Elsewhere, the data from Betway also revealed that fans are keen to see Michelle Keegan as the next Bond girl in the franchise.

The research found that articles on the topic of Keegan playing the role have received 27,920 engagements in the past two years - that’s almost three times more than the next contender, Margot Robbie.

Other actresses to feature include Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan and, bizarrely, Love Island presenter Maya Jama.
