Coronation Street: Gemma and Chesney argue over money

Coronation Street fans were left stunned upon discovering that Sam Aston's real-life sister had a role in the ITV soap.

Sam Aston, renowned for his portrayal of Chesney Brown since 2003, was merely 10 years old when he first graced the cobbles as Cilla Battersby-Brown's (Wendi Peters) son and Fiz Stape's (Jennie McAlpine) half-brother.

Like many child actors, Sam matured on the show, experiencing a range of intense storylines including being held captive, repeatedly being dumped, and becoming a single father.

Recently in the soap, he has been grappling with the aftermath of Paul Foreman's (Peter Ash) death, who was the twin brother of his wife Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell).

Over the years, Sam has become a favourite among Corrie fans, even winning the Best Newcomer award at the National Television Awards in 2004 and the Best Dramatic Performance for a Young Actor at the British Soap Awards the following year, reports the Mirror.

Interestingly, it appears that soap fame is a family affair, as his sister Emily is also a soap actress. In fact, she made an appearance on Coronation Street back in the nineties.

Emily played the character Becky Palmer on the ITV soap, featuring in 51 episodes between 1996 and 1997. Since then, she has starred in other popular shows such as BBC's Doctors, This Is England '88 and Hollyoaks.

Coronation Street fans were utterly astounded learning that the actress who recently joined as Becky, the daughter of one of Des' girlfriends, is actually Chesney's real-life sister. On a fan page dedicated to Corrie, a startled viewer posted: "Wow! The girl that played Becky (daughter of one of Des' girlfriends) is actually Chesneys (Sam Aston) real sister!"

Another chimed in with the observation: "Spit of each other ain't they." This sentiment was echoed by others, with one fan noticing resemblance after it was pointed out: "Now you said you can see it wow." More echoes came as another fan expressed: "U can tell!" A fifth fan also took note, commenting: "She so like him."

Emily isn't the sole aspiring actor in the family Sam Aston has shared familial ties with talent previously present on the Cobbles. His brother Joseph famously stepped into the shoes of Tommy Duckworth, Jack and Vera Duckworth's grandson, in 2000.

Moreover, Thomas, another one of Sam's siblings, boasts appearances on established TV series such as Casualty and The Bill.

This year, Sam Aston opened up regarding how his family's involvement in acting has helped him navigate the world of soap operas, especially now that his character is portrayed as having five children.

Disclosing details to The Mirror and other media outlets, he explained: "Because I grew up in a big family anyway, I've always been used to the chaos."

Elaborating more about his personal dynamics at home, Aston added: "I've got five sisters, three brothers. So I'm used to a lot of people being around in the house and children and all sorts. So it's not as crazy as it sounds. I don't think it's as crazy as what it could be when you initially think there are four babies on set."

Concluding, he reflected upon his own experiences as a parent: "I think it's harder if anything when there's newborns and we were brand new to it. Because I've got two kids myself, maybe I am a bit more calm in that situation."
