Paul Sinha left fans gobsmacked today as he made a "never seen before" mistake on The Chase. The quizzer was back at the helm of the ITV show as he and Bradley Walsh welcomed on four new players.

In a brand new episode, players Ajay, Maniseng, Jayne and Ben pitted their wits and tested their general knowledge as they went head to head with the Sinnerman. They hoped that their smarts would help them bag a grand prize as they took on a cash builder round, head to head and the final chase.

But as first player Ajay took to the stand to answer quick fire questions, something "rare" happened. Paul ran out of time while comtemplating an answer.

Brad asked: "Which of these UK publications was first established in the 19th century?" The possible answers were The Dandy, The Oldie or The Lady.

Ajay answered in good time, securing his answer as The Lady, but Brad had bad news for the Chaser as he said: "Chaser, out of time." Paul later revealed that he would have answered The Dandy - which would have been incorrect anyway.

The player made it through the rest of the questions, bagging himself a place in the final chase while adding £6,000 to the cash pot.

Fans watching at home did not let Paul's slip up go amiss, as they flooded social media with comments about the faux pas. One X/Twitter user posted: "Paul really forgot to answer a question... #thechase."

A second added: "Ffs Paul, chasers aren’t supposed to run out of time!.. #TheChase." Someone else quizzed: "Wtf has that ever happened before? Lol #TheChase."

"Rare slip by a chaser! #TheChase," another commented. While someone else added a GIF of superstar chef shouting: "Wakey, wakey, let's go."

Paul recently opened up about his ongoing struggle with Parkinson's disease and how it might signal the end of his tenure on the hit ITV quiz show.

Since his Parkinson's diagnosis in 2019, Paul hasn't shied away from discussing his fears and concerns about the future. Reflecting on this in a heartfelt conversation on ITV's Loose Women, he stressed the importance of living in the moment, saying: "I refuse to live in the future.

"I only want to live in the present and enjoy the present. Because I don't know what my future is. I don't have the time scale and I don't know when I'm going to start deteriorating."

He added that his brain is working at full capacity, which is making him happy but when he starts to deteriorate he will step down before being fired by ITV

Paul explained: "I don't know what my future is, I don't know my time-scale, I don't know when I am gong to start deteriorating.

"I do know that when I stop answering questions at speed, The Chase won't fire me, I'll say, 'It's been a lovely journey, you've treated me very well, see you later.'"
