Strictly: Jamie Borthwick told he could win the glitterball

Jamie Borthwick could be in “trouble” as Strictly Come Dancing rolls into its fourth week of live shows. The EastEnders star has dealt a devastating blow following his performance on Saturday amid claims of an apparent bout of low confidence.

Jamie, 30, and professional partner Michelle Tsiakkas are set to return to the BBC ballroom this weekend to take another stab at topping the Strictly leaderboard. The pair have accumulated 80 points for their three dances so far, but a skilled people reader remains unconvinced by their performances.

Seasoned body language specialist Darren Stanton has weighed in on whether Jamie and Michelle could be the next couple to bite the dust, telling Betfair Casino that he believes this week could spell “trouble”. He commented: “While they seem strong as a pairing in terms of their level of rapport, which continues to build, the judges will be less and less forgiving of small technical faults.

“We are seeing the judges become more critical and picky when it comes to their routines.”

Following the pair’s Viennese Waltz in week one and subsequent Rumba and Quickstep, Jamie and Michelle are set to perform a Salsa to ‘Danza Kuduro’ by Don Omar and Lucenzo.

But Darren believes the Strictly 2023 Christmas victor may not have what it takes to see the competition to its finale.

“Jamie’s levels of confidence are slipping. I’m not seeing what it takes to get through to the latter point of the competition, they’re not quite as well-connected as some of the other couples higher up the leaderboard,” he added.

The actor, who portrays Jay Brown on ITV’s EastEnders, is no stranger to the Strictly dance floor, having competed on the 2023 festive special with professional partner Nancy Xu.

He and the 33-year-old hoisted the coveted Silver Star trophy last Christmas thanks to the pair’s perfect-scoring Quickstep to Shakin’ Stevens’ ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’.

Reflecting on his journey to the main show, Jamie revealed he’d initially auditioned to take part five years ago.

"I went and spoke to Strictly in 2018 when you go and have an audition with the lovely Amy Dowden,” he said during a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain.

“We didn't do it that year. When the Christmas show came around, I was like - well that's not that bad. I did the Christmas show, and loved it. Enjoyed every second and I was hoping they would ask me to do the main show.

“When we did the Christmas special, ‘I thought I can't do this’ - but then the music happened and you just go. I thought it was bad on the Christmas show but the live show is wow!”

Catch Jamie and Michelle in action this Saturday as Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7.20pm.
