The Chase: Megan gets caught after taking higher offer

Fans of The Chase have praised two “bold” contenders who were swayed to play for Chaser Anne Hegerty’s highest offer. The pair, who hailed from London and Gainsborough, battled it out but unfortunately couldn’t beat The Governess.

On Thursday’s rerun (October 3) of The Chase, ITV host Bradley Walsh was once again on hand to guide a quartet of contestants through three rounds. After performing spectacularly in the initial Cash Builder, contestant Sav took a gamble, taking 66-year-old Anne’s higher offer of £50,000.

Despite answering questions on Marvel superheroes and more correctly, he eventually failed to beat the Chaser and was sent packing. Following in his footsteps was Megan, who also chose to go for the quizzer’s highest offer.

Like Sav before her, she also failed to get home and lost her £85,000. Fans however have taken to social media to praise the pair for their braveness.

One user of X, formerly known as Twitter, typed: “Two very bold players going for the high offer, unfortunately, not to be for either of them.” A second said: “Fair play to Sav and Megan giving the highs a go. Can leave #thechase with their heads held high.”

Someone else echoed: “Well, hard luck Megan. Kudos for trying though. Respect!”

“Wow going for the £85 grand #TheChase,” penned a fourth.

Following Sav and Megan’s exit, self-confessed Smiths superfan Jenny and Liverpudlian Steve were next to the plate.

The duo weren’t as courageous as their eliminated team members but managed to add a tidy £7,000 between them in the prize fund.

Unfortunately, they were caught within 44 seconds by Anne in the Final Chase and were thus forced to leave the show empty-handed.

Earlier this year, Anne, who has served as a quiz master on The Chase since 2010, opened up about how upcoming budget cuts could affect the show.

It’s understood bosses have reportedly been forced to cut the number of episodes being filmed in 2025 due to finances, with Anne confirming she will be filming “fewer shows”

“All the streaming services are carrying adverts now,” she explained. “So channels like ITV are having to compete for advertising money.

“It means there is less money from adverts. We are still coming off the tail end of a pandemic that shut down the economy for two years. There is less money.”

"It’s like this all over the world,” she confessed to the Daily Star. “Every aspect of the media is feeling the pinch right now," she said of the strain being felt globally.

Tune into The Chase every weekday at 5pm on ITV and ITVX.
